The existence of the Ladies’ Section within our Band Club goes back more than twenty years. It is therefore imperative to mention and appraise the first group of women who joined forces to voluntarily work towards one common goal – to strengthen the popularity of our much beloved village feast dedicated to Our Lady of the Lilies (Madonna tal-Gilju). The aim of the current members of this sub-committee is to build on past successes and work, together with the Central Committee and the other sub-committees towards this objective. In this manner, our feast will continue to be ahead of its competitors in all aspects. We believe that the traditional Maltese festa is part of our culture and should be maintained tangibly alive! Among the activities that our sub-committee organises during the year, for fund-raising purposes, are the monthly coffee mornings, cultural activities, bingo and lotteries. We continually liaise with the Central Committee and assist in the organisation of major family activities such as barbecues, Country Nights, Pasta Nights and more… We are committed to continue organising these events and other innovative activities for women, children, the elderly and families in general. You will be updated regularly with upcoming events through this website. The funds raised by the Ladies’ Section are utilised in the yearly organisation of one of the most renowned feasts on our Islands. We also support particular projects such as the restoration and refurbishment of the Band Club building and the unceasing improvements carried out on our artistic band stand (Plancier Meravilja!) Our female members, the number of which has remarkably reached the 200 mark, are encouraged to come up with any new ideas and suggestions for this sub-committee. Furthermore, all voluntary assistance that members can provide during the organisation of our social activities as well as during Festa week are most welcome and are definitely a way of consolidating our mission statement – Viva l-Madonna tal-Gilju!
