The Our Lady of the Lily Musical Society sadly announces the demise of Julio Barbara who went to meet the Risen Lord on Monday 20th April 2020. Ġilju as he was better known, is the eldest among the Barbara brothers, children of Ġakbu and Rosa, a family with a deep tradition of the Feast of Our Lady of the Lily.
For several years, he formed part of the Society’s Administrative Committee as well as musician within the Our Lady of the Lily Band. He is mostly remembered as a great fireworks enthusiast within the Lily Fireworks Team. “Il-Purtiera” which used to be fired following the battery at the exit of the Procession with the Statue of Our Lady of the Lily remains synonymous to Ġilju. He was lately appointed as Honorary Member as recognition for the great work conducted throughout his life for the Society and the Feast of Our Lady of the Lily.
The Society takes the opportunity to extend its deepest condolences to his relatives, especially his wife Paola and his three sons Raymond, Kevin and Rodney.
