The date of the 9th April 2021 marks the 79th anniversary from the collapse of the Mqabba Parish Church Dome in an air raid during the Second World War, way back in 1942. The new dome was constructed under the direction of Mastru Baskal Xuereb, one of the Society’s Committee members and fireworks enthusiast.

He also directed the works related to the construction of the present premises and facade of the Lily Band Club. Baskal, was the brother of Dun Ġuzepp Xuereb who served as the rector of the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception. During the Church’s collapse, the Statue of Our Lady of the Lily had been buried under the debris but was miraculously saved, suffering only minimal damages.
